Teddy Roosevelt Potato
Teddy Roosevelt Potato

Mrs. Ida Perkins of Bully Hill, CA grew this potato from a mere spud in her back garden. When it came time to gather in the crops, she was so struck by its likeness to President Theodore Roosevelt, that she dressed it up with some eyeglasses and entered it in the 1949 Shasta County Fair where it won a blue ribbon for "The Tuber Most Resembling a Famous Person." The second place ribbon went to a yam resembling Kirk Douglas and third place went to a red potato that looked like Joseph Stalin.
